Oven Baked BBQ Burgers

Ok, so my previous post explained my hatred for ground beef but I should have mentioned that hatred does not extend to ground beef that is turned into a cheeseburger.  My husband loves cheeseburgers. Like really loves them. Landon does too, actually. We are a cheeseburger family. But obviously, McDonald’s is not an option. So, I have been trying for a long time to provide cheeseburgers for my husband and stepson.

WHY IS SOMETHING SO SIMPLE, SO HARD? Seriously. We don’t have a grill, so I have been making burgers on the stove. What a mistake. Why does the outside of the burger cook before the inside stops mooing? Why do they let off so much steam while cooking? Why do the juices burn to the bottom of the pan and start smoking?  How come they get so damn dry so fast?

So with all of this frustration, I stopped making cheeseburgers. Until my husband caught on that I was leaving them off the menu – and decided I need to add them back on. So I am happy to report that I found the perfect, yes perfect way to make burgers. Maybe even better than on the grill? Ok, that was a little too far. But anyway – you can make burgers in the oven and it is the best thing ever. After 25 minutes (depending on the thickness) the burgers are cooked through to an internal temperature above 160 but the burgers cook evenly and remain juicy! No more dry hamburgers in this house!

With this newfound cheeseburger freedom, I have been able to experiment with adding some flavor to the ground beef. Enter, BBQ sauce. And folks, don’t buy Famous Dave’s. Find yourself some BBQ sauce that doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup. Or, even better… make your own! Ok, I didn’t do that, but someday I will.

Let me tell you something though – these burgers on gluten free Canyon Bakehouse Bread OR on a delicious bed of lettuce = AMAZEBALLS.

Oven Baked BBQ Burgers

Processed with VSCOcam with 4 preset

What You Need

1lb ground beef (lean)

¼ cup BBQ sauce of your choice

1 ½ tsp chili powder

1 tsp sea salt

1 tsp pepper

1 ½ tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Optional toppings

Red onion, sliced

Lettuce

Tomato, sliced

Cheese (yum!)

Fried egg (double yum!)

Processed with VSCOcam with 4 preset

What To Do

Preheat oven to 350° and grease a glass baking dish (glass is best so the burgers don’t smoke in the oven – but a nonstick baking sheet would work also).

Pour BBQ sauce, seasonings and ground beef in a large mixing bowl. GET IN THERE! Mix it all together with your hands.

Once mixed well, form the mixture into 6 hamburger patties and place them in the greased baking dish.

Bake for 25 – 30 minutes, depending on thickness until burgers reach an internal temperature of 160°. Make sure to flip your burgers about half way through.

Optional: remove from oven when burgers are just about done, add a slice of cheese and return to the oven until cheese is melted. Did I already say yum?

I topped mine with a fried egg, gouda cheese, lettuce, bacon mayo and ketchup on gluten free sandwhich bread.
